Description of Root Canals

Tooth decay can sometimes progress to the nerve of the tooth causing a patient to have a toothache. Root canal therapy is a treatment that helps prevent pain by cleaning the contaminated pulp chamber.

Steps for Treating Root Canals

  1. Pain treatment and time to heal

  2. After healing, the opening is filled

  3. Permanent crown is placed

Treatment Process for Root Canals

Typically root canals are done over a two-visit process.  We initially treat the tooth to relieve the patient’s pain and let the tooth heal for about 1-2 weeks.  After healing has been established, we have the patient come back to have the canal filled and completed.  Most importantly, once the procedure has been completed, it is recommended to have a crown placed on the tooth to have the tooth last for long term success.
